Romania produced, in the first three months of 2026, a quantity of crude oil of 579,400 tons of oil equivalent (toe), 52,300 toe lower (-8.3%) than that recorded in the similar period in 2025, according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), according to Agerpres.

Crude oil imports exceeded, in the first quarter of this year, 1.576 million toe, being 694,200 toe below those recorded in January – March 2025 (-30.6%).

According to the latest Energy Balance Forecast, published by the National Commission for Strategy and Prognosis (CNSP), crude oil production is expected to decrease, by 2027, at an average annual rate of 2.5%.

Thus, for 2026, CNSP estimates a quantity of crude oil of 2.68 million toe (-2.2%, compared to the previous year) and for 2027, of 2.63 million toe (-1.9%).

According to the cited source, this decrease is the consequence of the natural decline of the deposits and the maintenance of existing production units.
