INS: Electricity, rents and diesel fuel recorded the highest price increases in June

    Electricity (+59.97%), rents (+43.29%) and diesel fuel (+28.16%) recorded the highest price increases in June, compared to the same month in 2025, while potatoes (-14.47%), fresh fruit (-9.48%) and corn (-5.49%) fell the most, according to an analysis published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

    “In June 2026, annual inflation decreases slightly and reaches the threshold of 10.4%. Thus, the annual inflation rate, compared to the same month of the previous year, was 10.42%, with the highest price increases also recorded in services, 13.67%. During the same period, the prices of non-food goods increased by 12.29%, and those of food goods by 5.75%. In food, the highest price increases were also maintained in this period for coffee, its price increasing by 19.9%. Eggs are in second place with a price increase of 13.66%, while cow’s milk has become more expensive by 12.13%. Prices in the group of sugar, sugar products and honey increased by 9.44%”, the INS analysis shows, according to Agerpres.

    According to the cited source, significant increases are also noted for bread, 8.19%, and for beef by 11.95%, while poultry meat has become more expensive by 6.73%. In the alcoholic beverages category, the price of beer has increased in the last year by 8.18%, and that of wine by 6.60%.

    Other significant increases in tariffs are also noted for fresh fish (7.73%), oil (5.92%), citrus fruits (4.45%), and cottage cheese is more expensive by 5.83%.

    There are also price reductions in June 2026 compared to June 2025 for some food products such as potatoes (-14.47%), beans and other legumes (-2.87%), flour (-4.20%), corn (-5.49%) and butter, which decreased its price by only 0.16%. Fresh fruits are also decreasing in price (-9.48%).

    “Among non-food goods, the most significant increases in June continue to be those of the electricity tariff, which increased by 59.97%, after the elimination of the support scheme regarding the capping of electricity prices. Other tariff increases in this category were also recorded for fuels, namely for gasoline, by 22.74%, and for diesel, by 28.16%. Thermal energy increased by 10.70%, books, newspapers, magazines by 10.76%, detergents by 9.41%, tobacco and cigarettes by 6.81%. Last but not least, medicines also increased their prices in June by 4.30%, and hygiene items and cosmetics became more expensive by 6.96%. Between June 2026 and June 2025, the price of gas increased by 4.70%”, is mentioned in the analysis.

    In the services category, according to the analysis, the largest price increases in June 2026 compared to the same month in 2025 were recorded in rents, which increased by 43.29%, followed by water, sewer and sanitation tariffs by 16.10%, car repairs by 14.58%, hygiene and cosmetics, by 14.24%.
