The Romanian Association for Wind Energy – RWEA is growing in the context of the increased interest in wind energy in Romania, said Adrian Borotea, RWEA Vice President, in the conference “Investments – private funds, public funds, support schemes”, organized by Energynomics. At the end of 2021, RWEA received 8 new applications for membership, and in the first month of 2022 another 10, two of them directly on the board of the association.

As a result, the organization is approaching 40 members, said Adrian Borotea. “A large number of applications to join [RWEA] at the end of last year and the beginning of this year shows not only the increased interest in wind energy in Romania but also [the existence of] real development projects,” he said. “This year we will all see them, so that next winter we will be less dependent on imports.”

The market expects that this year the works will start at a minimum of 1,000 MW in the wind sector. In the opinion of Adrian Borotea, there is the potential that in 2022 the construction works for 2,000 – 3,000 MW in new wind power generation capacities will start. In the coming years, Romania may attract investments of about 9,000 MW in the wind generation sector alone, RWEA Vice President added.

Romanian Association for Wind Energy – RWEA is a non-profit organization launched in 2008 as the voice of the energy transition and the wind energy industry in Romania. RWEA is actively involved in national and international policy and the dialogue of regulation, communication, research and analysis on the expansion of renewable energy sources.
