The inaugural Balkan Battery Day will take place on 21 May 2026 in Athens, bringing together the key decision makers shaping Southeast Europe’s rapidly expanding battery energy storage sector.

Positioned as the leading platform where the Balkan BESS market meets, the event will convene senior industry leaders from across the energy storage value chain, including developers, investors, utilities, EPC contractors, OEMs, financiers and energy traders actively building the next generation of battery energy storage systems across the region.

With the deployment of renewable energy accelerating across Southeast Europe, battery storage is quickly becoming a central pillar of the region’s energy transition. Across Europe, battery storage deployment continues to surge, with 27.1 GWh of new capacity installed in 2025 alone, marking another record year driven largely by utility scale systems.

Against this backdrop, the Balkans is emerging as one of Europe’s most dynamic new battery storage markets. Regional pipelines are expanding rapidly, with large scale projects advancing across Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and neighbouring markets. Romania alone has more than 1.2 GW of standalone BESS projects in development, while new projects such as a planned 300 MW and 1,200 MWh battery facility in western Romania illustrate the scale of investments now entering the market.

Industry programmes and public funding are also accelerating deployment. In Bulgaria, for example, EU backed schemes have already approved more than 4 GWh of battery storage projects as the country moves to strengthen grid flexibility and support the rapid growth of renewable energy.

Balkan Battery Day will provide a dedicated platform for stakeholders to explore these opportunities, focusing on real projects, real pipelines and the companies delivering them. The conference programme will examine regional market outlooks, regulatory frameworks, permitting and grid connection, project financing and the integration of battery storage with solar and wind generation.

Alongside the conference sessions, participants will take part in curated B2B meetings supported by the InNet Connect platform, enabling developers, investors and technology providers to identify potential partners and schedule targeted meetings ahead of the event.

Organised by Invest in Network, the team behind established regional industry gatherings including Energy Week Western Balkans and Energy Week Black Sea, the inaugural Balkan Battery Day aims to become the region’s central meeting point for the battery energy storage industry.

By bringing together the companies financing, developing and delivering projects across Southeast Europe, the event will offer a unique opportunity to understand where the next wave of battery storage deployment will emerge and how the Balkan energy system is evolving as storage moves to the centre of the region’s power markets.
