Essential equipment at Ukraine’s Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is not affected by Russian bombings, and radiation levels remain unchanged, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday, citing local nuclear regulators, Reuters reports. Later on, the Russian army occupied the plant.

The IAEA added that Ukraine had announced that the plant, located in the southeast of the country, had been bombed during the night, according to Agerpres.

“The Ukrainian regulator has announced that a fire at the site has not affected ‘essential’ equipment and that the plant’s staff is taking mitigation measures. No changes were reported in the radiation level at the plant,” the IAEA said.

Ukrainian response teams said on Friday they had extinguished a fire that broke out in a building at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which was hit during the night by Russian bombing in the midst of Moscow’s invasion of the country.
