Hidroelectrica has launched the procurement procedure for the design, supply and installation of the mechanical and electrical equipment for the Nehoiașu II Hydroelectric Power Plant, as well as for the expansion of the 110 kV transformer station within the Surduc-Siriu Hydropower Development. The project represents one of the company’s strategic investments in the development of renewable energy production capacities and in strengthening Romania’s energy security.
The contract, estimated at approximately EUR 49.5 million (excluding VAT), will be awarded as a “turnkey” contract and will include design, manufacturing, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning and training of operating personnel. The estimated implementation period is 44 months, with the project to be carried out within the Surduc-Siriu Hydropower Development, located in the counties of Buzău, Vrancea and Covasna.

The Nehoiașu II HPP project, part of the Surduc-Siriu Hydropower Development, will contribute to increasing the production capacity from renewable sources, improving the flexibility of the National Energy System and consolidating Hidroelectrica’s role as the main green energy producer in Romania. We continue to invest in strategic projects, in the development, diversification and hybridization of the portfolio so as to ensure the transition to a sustainable energy system”, stated Bogdan Badea, CEO of Hidroelectrica.
The investment aims to install the complete hydropower unit, including the turbine, the generator, the automation and protection systems, the auxiliary hydromechanical equipment, as well as the expansion of the 110 kV power station, the integration of SCADA systems and the security and communications infrastructure. The project will contribute to increasing the flexibility of the energy system, improving the regulation capacity and further capitalizing on the hydropower potential of the Buzău River.
The Surduc-Siriu Hydropower Development represents one of the most important projects in Hidroelectrica’s investment portfolio, and the construction of the Nehoiașu II HPP is essential for the completion of the entire Surduc-Nehoiașu stage and for increasing the company’s renewable energy production.
The award procedure will have as its criterion “the best quality-price ratio”, the evaluation of the offers will take into account the guaranteed technical parameters, the performance of the equipment and the guarantees offered, along with the financial component.
