Hidroelectrica published its annual report for 2025, a year characterized by difficult hydrological conditions, which marked a decrease in net profit from 4.1 billion lei in 2024 to 3.7 billion lei (-17.8%), despite a 5% increase in revenue.
According to the data presented by the company, in the previous year, Hidroelectrica made total investments of 781 million lei, up 32% compared to 2024, representing the best year in terms of investment for the company. This record level of investments reflects the acceleration of modernization, re-engineering and development of new production capacity programs, in line with the strategy of consolidating Hidroelectrica’s position as the leader in renewable energy in Romania.
The investment performance in 2025 is all the more relevant as the year was marked by the most difficult hydrological conditions in recent history, the first nine months being characterized by low hydraulicity that significantly limited production capacity. In this context, hydro production decreased by 14% compared to 2024, and 2025 recorded the lowest hydro production in Romania’s history.
Despite these conditions, Hidroelectrica recorded solid financial results, confirming the resilience of its business and management model. Thus, the company reports revenues of 9.6 billion lei, up 5% compared to the previous year, as well as a consolidated net profit of 3.37 billion lei, a result obtained in a year with low production and difficult market conditions. The reported figures position Hidroelectrica in first place in the top of the most profitable Romanian companies.
The financial results exceeded budget expectations, with net profit being 10% above the revised budget, amid a strong recovery in the fourth quarter.
Also, the company’s net margin stood at 35%, a level that still places Hidroelectrica among the most profitable companies in Romania, confirming the company’s operational efficiency and financial discipline.
“The year 2025 was one of the most difficult from a hydrological point of view, but the results obtained confirm that we have a solid business model, as well as the Hidroelectrica team’s ability to manage challenges and perform in complex conditions. The recovery of results in the latter part of the year was due to a very careful management of the water resource, correlated with an efficient energy sales strategy and optimization of the commercial portfolio.
“I want to emphasize that 2025 was the best investment year for the company, which demonstrates that we respect the commitment assumed in terms of infrastructure modernization, development of new capacities and consolidation of Hidroelectrica’s position. We continue to invest at an accelerated pace to ensure Romania’s energy security and generate sustainable value for our shareholders”, said Bogdan Badea, CEO of Hidroelectrica.
During 2025, Hidroelectrica continued to consolidate its market position, including by developing its supply portfolio, with the number of consumption places reaching 1.16 million, almost double the previous year, which confirms the attractiveness of the company’s offers and the trust of consumers in this company.
Hidroelectrica is the largest renewable energy producer in Romania, managing a portfolio of 188 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 6.4 GW, as well as the Crucea wind farm, with 108 MW installed. The company also ranks first in the national top of electricity suppliers in terms of the size of its customer portfolio.
