Romania has not fulfilled the terms agreed with the EU and risks blocking EU funds for waste management, says Minister Cristian Ghinea in its report for 100 days in office. The main ex-ante terms posing an increased risk of not being fulfilled are in the fields of public procurement, transport, waste management, research and innovation and digital development, says a document of the Ministry of European Funds (MFE).

In contrast, Romania has fulfilled the terms when it comes to efficiency in use of energy, combined heat and power, renewable energy and electricity storage and transmission, the document shows.

“The critical stage that is currently affecting the fulfillment of these terms is caused by the effective lack of implication of the responsible institutions that, in the absence of concrete actions, postponed repeatedly the assumed deadlines and cited the lack of technical assistance, given that their own actions lagged behind.”

”In fact, this government has to solve in a few months terms that should have been fulfilled since 2014. One example is the National Waste Management Plan – a document that should have analyzed the solutions needed for the sorting and storage of waste in all areas of the country,”according to the document.
