General Electric (GE) has completed the installation of  wind turbines for a 50 MW wind energy production project owned by the power and gas distributor GDF Suez Energy Romania. The wind farm is located in Băleni, Galaţi County, and can provide power for 15,000 households.

In addition to the supply, construction and commissioning of the wind turbines, GE will provide maintenance of the wind farm for a period of ten years.

GE is one of the leading providers of wind turbines for the projects in Romania. The company has supplied the wind turbines for the largest onshore wind farm in Europe, the 600 MW Fântânele/Cogealac project owned by the Czech group CEZ, which can power a million homes.

GE also will supply turbines for a wind farm of 17.5 MW owned by Energia Verde Ventuno located in Cerna, Tulcea County, which will be able to supply with power 7,000 households.

GDF Suez Energy Romania, former Distrigaz Sud, registered in the first semester a turnover of 2.24 billion lei (1 euro=4,45 lei), down 5.6%, and the net profit increased by 35.6% to 352.5 million lei.

Currently, in Romania there are projects in the wind energy production of over 2,100 MW.
