Gas imports up 116.3% in January, crude oil imports decreased

    Romania’s usable natural gas production in January 2026 was 654,400 tons of oil equivalent, 7,300 toe below that in the first month of the previous year (minus 1.1%), according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

    On the other hand, in January 2026, natural gas imports increased by 116.3% (plus 183,400 toe) compared to the same period last year, up to 341,100 toe, according to Agerpres.

    At the same time, Romania produced, in January 2026, a quantity of crude oil of 199,500 tons of oil equivalent (toe), 19,500 toe lower (-8.9%) than that recorded in the first month of 2025.

    Crude oil imports totaled, in the analyzed interval, 728,900 million toe, 110,900 toe, 13.2% below those recorded in January 2025.

    According to the latest Energy Balance Forecast, published by the National Strategy and Forecast Commission (CNSP), crude oil production is expected to decrease by 2027 at an average annual rate of 2.5%.

    Thus, for 2026, CNSP estimates a quantity of crude oil of 2.68 million toe (-2.2%, compared to the previous year) and for 2027 of 2.63 million toe (-1.9%).
