Gas imports decreased by 14%, production by 5.6%, between January and May

Romania imported, in the first five months of 2022, a quantity of usable natural gas of 930,500 tons of oil equivalent (toe), 14% (151,700 toe) lower than in the same period last year, according to data centralized by the Institute National Statistics Office (INS).

Domestic natural gas production was, during the mentioned period, of over 2.957 million toe, being 5.61% (176,400 toe) below that of the first five months of 2021.

The National Commission for Strategy and Forecast estimates for 2022 a gas production of 7.45 million toe and imports of 2.33 million toe, increasing by 1.9%, respectively decreasing by 19.6%, from year to year, according to Agerpres.

According to the “Energy Strategy 2019-2030, with the perspective of 2050”, published on the website of the Ministry of Energy, Romania’s natural gas production will reach a peak of 132 TWh, in 2025, as a result of production in the Black Sea, and then will it would fall to 96 TWh in 2030 and to 65 TWh in 2050.

Final natural gas consumption will remain constant between 2030 and 2050, at the level of 68 TWh. The maximum level of demand is estimated at around 73 TWh, and the minimum level, from 63 TWh in 2030, to 47 TWh in 2050.
