Enery, an independent renewable energy producer in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), announces the start of the Ogrezeni hybrid project, in Giurgiu County, Romania, located just one hour away from Bucharest. With an installed capacity of 761 MWp/ 534 MW AC and over 1 GWh of battery storage, Ogrezeni will be one of the largest hybrid projects in Europe. Once operational, the photovoltaic park will generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of approximately 684,000 households and avoid around 303,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
Construction on the site is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with commissioning planned for summer 2027. The project represents an important milestone in Enery’s portfolio in Romania and supports the country’s decarbonization and energy security objectives by providing large-scale renewable capacity injected into the grid.
“With Ogrezeni, we are taking a major step forward in delivering large-scale renewable energy that creates long-term value not only for our partners, but also for local communities and the Romanian energy system as a whole,” said Richard König and Lukas Nemec, co-founders of Enery. “This project reflects our strategy of combining strong development and execution capabilities with deep local participation. By working with partners, entrepreneurs and local stakeholders, we ensure that the benefits of the energy transition are widely distributed – from secure green energy and new jobs to sustainable investments in communities.”
The project builds on Enery’s partnership with the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund (3SIIF), an infrastructure investment fund that finances energy, transport and digital infrastructure projects in the EU Member States in Central and Eastern Europe, with the aim of strengthening connectivity, energy security and economic growth in the “Three Seas” region, located between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas.
The Ogrezeni project is supported by a EUR 460 million project finance agreement signed on December 24, 2025 with a consortium of eight commercial banks, coordinated by UniCredit.
“We are pleased to start this landmark project which, once completed, will make a significant contribution to the energy security of the region,” said Edward Randolph, member of the Enery Investment Board, representing 3SIIF, and Chief Investment Officer at Amber Infrastructure. “Through the Investment and Development Bank, Romania is a key participant in the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund (3SIIF). We are delighted to support this project and continue 3SIIF’s track record of investments in Romania’s energy infrastructure,” added Alexandra Bocse, Investment and Development Bank of Romania.
“Enery, co-founded just six years ago by Richard König, Lukas Nemec and RP Global, has developed its business in a truly remarkable way. In the context of the start of construction of one of the largest renewable projects in Europe, we are very proud to continue, through RPG Capital, to be part of this story and look forward to further successes of Enery’s high-performance team,” said Gerhard Matzinger, CEO of RP Global.
During the construction period, the project will generate significant employment opportunities, with approximately 350 people exclusively involved, and will stimulate demand for local services, including accommodation, restaurants and logistics. Once operational, operation and maintenance will be carried out using local resources, through a collaboration between Enery’s internal team and specialized service providers in Romania. During the operational phase, the project will create permanent local jobs and support indirect employment in the region.
“Ogrezeni is an emblematic project for Romania – not only because of its size, but also because of the way it was designed around local value creation,” said Liviu Gavrilă, Country Manager Romania at Enery. “From local engineering and construction companies to long-term service providers, Romanian partners will play a central role throughout the project. The energy produced here will support the country’s decarbonization efforts and direct tax revenues and economic benefits to the communities in the area.”
Enery has selected Enevo Group as the main EPC contractor for the photovoltaic project and grid connection, ensuring the integrated delivery of engineering, procurement and construction services through a local Romanian supplier with a proven track record in the construction of large-scale renewable power plants and high-voltage transformer stations. All main engineering activities, the EPC team and a significant part of the materials will be provided locally, strengthening the project’s contribution to the national economy and supply chain resilience.
“The fact that we have been selected by Enery to carry out the works within the Ogrezeni project represents a major milestone for us,” said Cristian Pîrvulescu, CEO of ENEVO Group. “As an EPC focused on the construction and integration of renewable energy into the grid, we are proud to contribute to what is set to become the largest photovoltaic power plant in Romania. We thank Enery for choosing a Romanian contractor and for their commitment to maximizing the local component of such an important investment project.”
Community engagement has been an integral part of the project since its early stages. Enery has already initiated dialogues with stakeholders in Ogrezeni and the wider Giurgiu County and will continue to hold regular meetings with community members throughout construction and operation. An ongoing community impact assessment and biodiversity monitoring program will accompany the project throughout construction and operation, ensuring that the plant is developed and operated in accordance with the highest environmental and social standards.
Building on Enery’s strong ESG track record in Romania, the company plans to implement new community projects in the vicinity of Ogrezeni, in line with local needs and priorities. Initiatives may include: implementing clean energy solutions for schools and kindergartens, supporting vulnerable community members, restoring local habitats, and developing climate and energy education programs for children and youth. Within its Romanian portfolio, Enery has already supported local communities by providing PV systems for educational institutions and a local hospital, restored lakes and on-site habitats, installed biodiversity facilities such as bird nests, insect hotels and reptile shelters, launched the first “Enery forest” project with 14,000 trees and carried out educational campaigns reaching over 1,000 students.
With the Ogrezeni project, Enery consolidates its position as a key partner in Romania’s energy transition and demonstrates how large-scale renewable assets can be developed integrating environmental protection, social impact and long-term economic value creation.
