The official inauguration of the SGB-ALFA factory in Botoșani, resulting from an investment of nearly 20 million euros, marks a crucial moment for strengthening the energy infrastructure in Europe. Electro-Alfa International, a major player in the electrical equipment market in Romania, and SGB-SMIT Group, a leader in transformer production, join forces to respond to the growing demand for reliable energy equipment.
“The opening of the SGB-ALFA factory represents a significant achievement for Electro-Alfa International, both locally and internationally. The partnership with SGB-SMIT Group confirms our development capacity,” stated Gheorghe Ciubotaru, President and Founder of Electro-Alfa International.
The factory, which began production in July 2025, currently employs approximately 100 people and has already manufactured over 1,300 transformers for European markets. By 2027, the unit is expected to generate over 200 direct jobs, supporting the development of a regional ecosystem of suppliers and business partners.
“Today, the inauguration of SGB-ALFA marks an important moment of strategic investment through which we strengthen our presence in Europe. Together with Electro-Alfa, we combine our global expertise in transformers with local capabilities to create a competitive platform,” affirmed Holger Ketterer, CEO of SGB-SMIT Group.
The new unit will produce oil-immersed distribution transformers, with powers ranging from 50 kVA to 1,000 kVA, intended for distribution operators and industrial customers. This modern production capacity is essential to meet the increasing demand for energy infrastructure across Europe.
Electro-Alfa International, with 35 years of experience, managed to attract net revenues of 544.3 million lei through an initial public offering in February 2026, and its market capitalization exceeds 2.2 billion lei. This development underscores the company’s commitment to contributing to the modernization of critical energy infrastructure in Romania and Europe.
The collaboration between Electro-Alfa International and SGB-SMIT Group not only enhances the competitiveness of the industrial sector in Romania but also supports the development of modern and sustainable energy solutions, thus contributing to the transformation of the European energy landscape.
