Electricity suppliers should offer customers dynamic, hourly settlement contracts to meet their needs so that they can, when prices are low, store energy and use it when prices are high, Dumitru Chiriţă, president of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), said on Wednesday, at Energy Strategy Summit 2022.

“Not only do we have production and distribution in the energy area, we also have suppliers. I encourage electricity suppliers, unfortunately, they have not done so to date, to offer customers dynamic contracts, with hourly settlement, to meet customers’ demand, to be able, for example, at times when prices are low, to store energy and use it when prices are high. These are solutions we have at hand,” mentioned Dumitru Chiriţă, at the Energy Strategy event Summit 2022, according to Agerpres.

The president of ANRE specified that at the end of last year the new computer system was completed, which is “a super high-performance one”.

“At the same time, I think it is important for the regulator to have a relationship with the economic operators in the market that is less bureaucratic. I want to inform you that at the end of last year we completed the new IT system. It is a super-performing one. From now on we will create conditions to follow the activity of the operators in real time – I hope that they will also adapt to our IT system – because some of them, unfortunately, are not moving in this direction. We will monitor the investments so that they can be realized and, in the same way, we will make available to the general public information about what is happening in the sector,” Chiriţă added.

At the same time, he stressed that the digital platform will be completed in September, which “will create conditions for a final customer to change his supplier in 24 hours”.

“Finally, I am referring to what I say, in smaller circles, to the ‘supplier fear’ – namely the digital platform that we will complete in September – and which will create conditions for an end customer to change their supplier in 24 hours. Then the suppliers will be more responsible in relation to their customers and will be able to meet their demands. This platform will be a common database for all gas and electricity customers and will be equally accessible for the price comparator and the offers of the suppliers,” added Dumitru Chiriţă.
