On Veterans Day, Electrica Furnizare launched the social initiative “Energy of Gratitude,” through which World War II veterans and widows can receive 100 kWh of free electricity each month for 12 months. From April 29, 2026, through July 31, 2026, applications can be submitted online or at the company’s customer service centers. The benefit applies to the eligible consumption location and covers the final price of electricity, including active energy, regulated tariffs, contributions, green certificates, excise tax, and VAT.
Electrica Furnizare presents this initiative as a gesture of gratitude toward the generations who defended Romania and contributed, directly or indirectly, to the country’s reconstruction. The company emphasizes that 100 kWh per month can cover a household’s basic energy needs, such as lighting, the refrigerator, and essential appliances.
“For Electrica, stability is a daily responsibility,” says Alexandru Chiriță, CEO of Electrica and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electrica Furnizare. “For war veterans, stability was a duty fulfilled at a cost we cannot match. This initiative is not a marketing gesture; it is the recognition, within the limits of what we can do month after month, of a debt that society owes to those who defended it.”
The initiative is aimed at war veterans who participated in World War II and war widows, as defined by Law No. 44/1994. To qualify for the discount, eligible individuals must provide proof of their status as a war veteran or war widow, through an ID card or a decision issued by the Ministry of National Defense.
According to the campaign rules, the free allowance applies to a maximum of 100 kWh per month for each eligible consumption point, for a period of 12 months from the date of registration validation. The cost of the first 100 kWh consumed monthly is fully covered by the supplier and deducted directly from the customer’s bill. Any unused portion of the monthly allowance does not carry over to the following month.
The regulation stipulate that individuals who have entered into a supply contract with Electrica Furnizare for a consumption point where a veteran or a war widow resides may also apply for enrollment, provided they submit a sworn statement/enrollment form and documents proving the beneficiary’s status.
New customers who do not have an active contract with Electrica Furnizare must first choose an electricity product from the company’s current offering, after which the campaign registration procedure applies to them. All registrations are verified by the organizer’s representatives, and validation occurs only if all conditions in the regulations are met.
The discount applies to the final price of electricity, including active electricity, the subscription or connection fee, distribution charges, transmission and system service charges, CfD, the cogeneration contribution, green certificates, excise tax, and VAT. For beneficiaries who already receive statutory discounts, such as home heating assistance, the energy supplement, or discounts provided for certain areas, these take priority, and the 100 kWh free allowance applies after the statutory discounts.
