ELCO Alba Iulia Electroconstruction will build a new storage station for a client in Curtici, Arad. The value of the works is 1.6 million euro, excluding VAT, the company announced, according to a report consulted by Energynomics. ELCO officials told Energynomics that it is a 55 MW storage station, and the name of the client was not specified for confidentiality reasons. Officials also told us that Elco is in charge of the external, civil and electrical works, and not the internal part of the solar parks.

“This is a larger project, with several solar parks and stations, related to the works at the Curtici high-voltage station,” the sources told us.

“The management of Electroconstrucția ELCO Alba Iulia informs investors about the conclusion, with the same client, of a series of related contracts with the object of executing the works related to the CURTICI BESS project, located in Arad county. The contracts aim at executing the civil and electrical works related to the infrastructure of an electricity storage system (BESS). The cumulative value of the contracts, including the additional works that will be agreed upon later, is estimated at EUR 1.6 million, excluding VAT, representing a significant value compared to the Company’s turnover related to the last annual financial statement. The works are to be executed in accordance with the agreed contractual terms and conditions,” the document states.

The project involving the high-voltage networks and works in the Curtici area is being carried out in the context of railway modernization by CFR Infrastructură (National Railway Company “CFR” SA) together with the national electricity transmission operator Transelectrica, according to some sources.

Electroconstrucția Elco Alba Iulia S.A. (ELCO), is a Romanian company established in 1993 by Government decision with the purpose of outsourcing the construction and assembly activity from the company Electrica S.A. ELCO continues to provide services for Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania SA today.

Through the privatization program of 1995, the company’s shares were sold in full, becoming a private company, listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

ELCO is certified by the National Energy Regulatory Authority for the design and execution of interior electrical installations for civil and industrial constructions, overhead and underground connections, at nominal voltages of 0.4 kV; design of overhead and underground power lines, with nominal voltages of 0.4 kV -20 kV and transformer stations with a nominal voltage of no more than 20 kV and execution of overhead or underground power lines with nominal voltages of 0.4 kV – 20 kV and transformer stations with a nominal voltage of no more than 20 kV.

Since November 2021, following the change of main shareholders and management, ELCO’s activity has expanded its services to the renewable energy segment (photovoltaic), and since April 2022 it has been authorized by the Environmental Fund Administration for the installation of photovoltaic systems within the Green House programs financed by the AFM.
