Elcen Bucharest, the company that provides 90% of the thermal energy of the capital, has made a preliminary turnover for last year of 1.9 billion lei (428 million euros), increasing by 19% compared to 2013, headlines Mediafax. However, the preliminary net profit, 30 million lei, decreased from 51 million lei due to the rising gas prices, said general manager ELCEN, Gabriel Ignat.

Despite these circumstances, Elcen Bucharest is thinking bold on enlargement and on the use of emerging technologies. “We thought to expand to other cities, large, through joint ventures with other companies, even if we merge or not (with RADET – no). Thermofication must be revived if we consider the gas in the Black Sea. In two years, through economic measures to reconnect the centralized heating system customers, we can increase sales of thermal energy by 10%,” said Gabriel Ignat.

“We think about the storage of electricity. The energy produced at night is sold at lower prices, but we produce it, because we anyway produce heat. We can store this energy and sell it on at a higher price. A storage capacity would cost 500 million euros. We cannot increase the production of electricity, but we could sell it at a higher price,” he added.

About merger with RADET, Gabriel Ignat explained: “The merger with RADET is a natural move given that RADET is not paying us. Following the merger we could get closer to the final customers, I embed my sales channel. Another reason for the merger with RADET is that they can make energy services. We do not have visibility to the final customer,” added Ignat.

After the division, the company Elcen Bucharest remained with the West Thermal Power Plant (250 MW installed), South Thermal Power Plant (550 MW) Thermal Power Plant Grozăveşti (100 MW) Thermal Power Plant Progresu (200 MW), as well as Repair Factory. Electrocentrale Constanta owns Palas Thermal Power Plant (100 MW) and the thermal energy transport networks serving the city of Constanta and other goods / assets of the ELCEN patrimony. Electrocentrale Titan operates Thermal Power Plant Titan (8 MW installed) and received the construction project also, with the Japanese company Marubeni, of a new plant in Fantanele, a 170 million euros project.
