A digital tool developed by EFdeN allows apartment owners to quickly estimate the energy class of their home and the impact of energy efficiency investments on their bills. At the same time, the platform offers an indicative alternative to the classic energy audit, which can cost between 200 and 300 lei for an apartment, said Victor Gavrilă, project manager at EFdeN.

“The simulator is a software application that you can access directly in your browser. We tried to strike a balance between all the technicalities of an energy audit and simple, user-friendly language. Someone with no technical background can fill out a questionnaire about their apartment and receive an estimated energy class, estimated bill costs, and investment solutions for renovation in about five minutes,” said Gavrilă, at Energynomics Day, on the premises of the Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec.

The application analyzes the characteristics of the dwelling, such as the size of the apartment, its position in the building, or the typical materials used in the construction of the building, and estimates energy consumption. The calculation is based on the official 2023 methodology used by energy auditors to determine the energy class. Based on the data entered, the platform also offers suggestions for interventions, such as insulating the building, changing the windows, replacing the boiler with a condensing one, or using more efficient appliances.

According to the developers, the app initially focuses on apartments in buildings constructed during the communist era, which are considered among the most energy-intensive in Romania’s housing stock. In the medium term, EFdeN wants to expand the simulator to single-family homes and introduce new modernization options, including heat pumps, mechanical ventilation systems, and photovoltaic panels.

The initiative also has an educational component, supported by ING Bank to raise awareness about energy efficiency and the impact of investments in reducing energy consumption.
