The European Commission has approved an investment of over 77 million euro from the Cohesion Fund, money that will be used to improve the waste collection, treatment and recycling system in Galati County.
The investment will provide a more integrated, efficient and sustainable waste management service, improving the quality of the environment for the benefit of more than 500,000 inhabitants, according to the European Commission.
According to the project, the entire population of Galati County will have access to sanitation by the end of 2021. In rural areas, only 45% of the population has access to such services.
The new infrastructure will increase the reuse and recycling of paper, metal, plastic, glass and wood waste and reduce waste that ends up in landfills.
The investment will create about 300 new jobs during the construction period and about 380 in the operational phase, the European Commission also said, according to G4Media.
