E.ON Energie România warns customers of a phishing campaign in which unauthorized persons fraudulently use the company’s name and visual identity to send fake emails regarding alleged unpaid invoices. The messages are not sent by E.ON Energie România and do not represent official company communications, E.ON officials claim.

As part of the fraud attempt, recipients receive a message with the subject “Unpaid Invoice”, in which they are informed about the existence of an alleged arrears and are urged to quickly make the payment by accessing a link. The messages can very well imitate E.ON communications and can even use a sender address that, at first glance, appears legitimate.

However, the link included in these messages does not direct to official E.ON platforms, but to a fraudulent domain, created with the aim of obtaining personal data and/or banking information of users.

The National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) has reported this phishing campaign.

E.ON Energie România recommends that customers do not access links in suspicious messages and do not enter personal data, passwords or banking information on pages accessed through such messages.

The mere fact that a message contains the E.ON logo, company graphics or a sender address that seems familiar does not guarantee its authenticity. The displayed sender address may be falsified or masked.

Individuals who have accessed fraudulent links or provided personal or financial information are advised to act immediately, change their passwords for accounts that may be affected and contact the card issuing bank and request verification and, if necessary, blocking of payment instruments.

To verify invoices, payments or contractual status, customers are asked to use exclusively the official E.ON Energie România channels, accessed directly and not through links received in suspicious messages.

E.ON Energie România recommends that customers, when they have any doubt about the authenticity of a communication received on behalf of the company, not to react under the pressure of the message and to verify the information directly through the official E.ON channels.
