E.ON Energie Romania has launched a new edition of the “Energy in Childhood Schools” project, transforming the support for education and energy efficiency into a national competition dedicated exclusively to schools in small towns. Three public schools will benefit this summer from a complete modernisation of their lighting system and the school ranked first will also receive a solar panel system – a concrete step towards energy independence and sustainability.
The project launched in 2015 has already brought noticeable changes to the Romanian education landscape: 86 schools modernised, over 41,000 lighting fixtures replaced and 54,500 students and teachers enjoying better conditions in their classrooms. Through efficient lighting that is close to natural daylight, the project contributes directly to improving education and reducing electricity consumption – a double benefit, economic and pedagogical.
The new edition of the project, in the form of an online competition running from 6 to 30 May 2025, is aimed at primary and secondary schools in small towns that have not recently benefited from significant modernisation. At the centre of the competition is not only the need for infrastructure, but also community involvement and the creativity of pupils. Participation involves filling in an online application form, accompanied by information about the current state of the facility, photos and a creative activity on the theme “Energy for the future”.
“We are launching this competition in a new format and we hope it will be an attractive one, both for teachers and administrative staff as well as for children,” said Claudia Griech, Managing Director of E.ON Energie Romania. The company aims to involve all beneficiaries to increase understanding and involvement. Energy efficiency is not about giving up, it’s about winning: increased comfort, savings and a more sustainable future.
Applications will be assessed between 11 and 20 June, and the selection criteria cover the need for modernisation as well as the quality of the materials submitted, the originality of the students’ activities and the degree of community involvement. The winners will be announced on 21 June, with the modernisation work taking place in July and August so that the new school year can start with brighter and more efficient classrooms.
The E.ON Energie Romania awards confirm the company’s commitment to education and sustainable energy:
- First place: complete modernisation of the lighting system and installation of solar panels;
- Second place: complete modernisation + 5 laptops and 2 interactive whiteboards;
- 3rd place: complete modernisation of the lighting system.
More than just a retrofitting programme, “Energy in Early Childhood Schools” is an example of active social responsibility, where energy efficiency becomes a topic of education and a tool for community transformation.
