The CEO of the group, E-Infra, Gianina Pelea, recommended, in Washington, the location of large data centers near mixed energy generation sites: gas or nuclear power plants with storage, renewable sources.

The E-Infra group was represented at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum, organized in the capital of the United States, one of the most important global forums on energy issues, according to Transilșvania Business.

Gianina Pelea, Group CEO of E-Infra and Andrei Mureșan, Deputy Group CEO of E-Infra, took part in the dialogues alongside other leaders in energy, technology, investment and public policy.

One of the central themes was how artificial intelligence (AI) changes the way economies and industries operate. Access to secure, affordable and scalable energy is becoming the defining factor for development. AI is generating unprecedented energy consumption, with current infrastructure not being sized to keep up.

Gianina Pelea presented E-Infra’s vision on how energy infrastructure can respond to the accelerated growth in energy consumption generated by AI, through two complementary solutions developed at a national and regional scale.

“At the national level, the ideal location for developing a data center is in the proximity of a mixed power generation site, which combines gas-fired power plants with battery storage or nuclear capacity with battery storage.

In addition, renewable sources (solar/wind) can be added. The energy mix and location near generation simultaneously ensure security of supply, competitive prices and the flexibility needed for large and permanent consumers, such as data centers and AI infrastructure.

At the regional level, high-capacity energy interconnectors can link digital infrastructure to the most efficient energy sources in the region.

Through HVDC corridors, data centers can be located where these “energy highways” connect to existing alternating current networks, contributing to the energy security and economic competitiveness of the region.

It is a single principle, applied at two scales: bringing consumption closer to cost-effective energy, not the other way around,” said the E-Infra official.
