Depogaz: Grant of 38 mln. euro for the modernization of the Bilciureşti gas storage

Depogaz Ploieşti signed on Wednesday with the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment (CINEA) the agreement for a grant of almost 38 million euro for the modernization of the infrastructure of the natural gas storage and extraction system from the Bilciureşti Deposit, announced the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu. The total value of the investment is of more than 110.47 million euro.

“Today we mark a new stage in the large project to modernize the energy sector in our country: The grant of approximately 38 million euro was approved for the modernization of the infrastructure of the natural gas storage and extraction system from the Bilciureşti Warehouse. As a beneficiary, Depogaz Ploieşti signed today, May 17, 2023, the Grant Agreement… with the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA), for the implementation of the project Increasing the daily extraction capacity within the Bilciureşti Deposit,” wrote the minister on his Facebook page, according to Agerpres.

He stressed that the project aims to increase the daily gas delivery capacity from the Bilciureşti warehouse from 14 million Smc/day to 20 million Smc/day, also correlated with an increase in the storage capacity of 108 million Smc/cycle.

“It is essential to increase the storage and extraction capacity in order to succeed in achieving our goal of energy independence and security. At the same time, we are preparing for the moment when we will extract the gas from the Black Sea. I want to congratulate the Depogaz team because they managed to obtain this grant and I wish them much success in completing this important and vital project. Yes, it is possible and as I said there are sufficient funds to complete all the projects through which we modernize the energy in our country,” the minister pointed out.

According to a statement from Depogaz, the project consists in the development of new surface installations which will take over the additional flow. At the same time, the rest of the existing installations will be modernized and completed, through the design, execution and commissioning of some operations.
