Colterm loses in court the cancellation of the AFM fine for lack of carbon certificates

The Timişoara Court of Appeal rejected the action filed in court by the district heating company Colterm S.A. from Timişoara contesting the fine received from the Environmental Fund Authority, amounting to 106,863,467 lei, for not acquiring pollution certificates imposed by the European Union for 2020.

In May, the Administration of the Environment Fund fined the district heating company from Timişoara, Colterm, with the amount of 106,863,467 lei – approximately 21 million euros, after the mayor Dominic Fritz did not convene the General Meeting of Shareholders of Colterm to discusses the issue of purchasing pollution certificates imposed by the European Union. The mayor later announced that he would challenge the fine.

The district heating company from Timişoara, Colterm, still has debts to suppliers of over 300 million lei, according to financialintelligence.ro.

Timişoara local elected officials voted, on December 23, to double the price of the gigacalorie paid by the subscribers of the central heating supplier, Colterm, in January, from 207.27 lei/MWh paid now, to 416.24 lei/MWh, after the mayor’s office initially wanted to triple the bill.
