Romania faces the risk of gas interruptions for several decades, says analyst Dumitru Chisăliță, founder of the Association for Intelligent Energy.

“This year will be more special because it announces a tense relationship following the negotiations between the Russian Federation – Ukraine and Gazprom-Naftogaz respectively, and a consequence of these negotiations, in fact the lack of conclusions of these negotiations could be the interruption of the deliveries of gas from imports to Romania and not only to Romania. The average gas prices have increased by at least 8% this year, taking into account also the price ceiling for households, and for non-domestic customers this increase has been over 30%,” said Chisăliță, quoted by financialintelligence.ro.

“Unfortunately, what has happened in the last four to five months shows an anomaly of the Romanian market, but it is an anomaly that has explanations – we are talking about the interventionism that existed on the natural gas market in Romania, especially because of GEO 114/2018 and other acts derogating from this ordinance. Unfortunately, the evolution is negative for all non-domestic energy consumers in Romania, but also for Romania as a whole. In my opinion, at the end of this year, we will face a negative balance that will show that, compared to last year, with all the interventionism existing, the average prices increased by at least 8%,” he added.
