The long-term strategic projects that will ensure Romania’s energy security with clean energy will generate around 20,000 jobs during the period in which they are carried out, declared, on Thursday, in a specialized conference, Teodor Chirica, the president of the Board of Nuclearelectrica.

He referred to the refurbishment of Unit no. 1 from Cernavodă, the project of Units 3 and 4, as well as the implementation of the small modular reactor (SMR) project.

“The long-term strategic projects will ensure Romania’s energy security with clean energy, under the conditions where energy dependence is included in security. I am referring to the re-engineering of unit no. 1 from Cernavodă – this unit will double its lifetime at a cost below 50% of a new block, that is, instead of decommissioning it, demolishing it, we give it another life.I am also referring to the project of Units 3 and 4 from Cernavodă and the project of small modular reactors (SMR). We already have experience in carrying out these projects. We are very interested in having a very solid supply chain, that is, to be able to work in the engineering area and in the construction-assembly area and in the manufacturing area – and there is a need for engineers . These projects will generate around 20,000 jobs, this during the period in which they are carried out”, mentioned Teodor Chirica, during the II edition of POLI EnergyFEST, organized at Politehnica Bucharest, according to Agerpres.

He expressed his hope that other projects will be launched.

“The project of small modular reactors (SMR) from Doiceşti will provide about 200 permanent jobs and there will be jobs during the construction, assembly and manufacturing area. The idea of an energy hub can become a reality, including in regarding the training of new specialists”, Chirica also said.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nuclearelectrica mentioned that “there are 2,700 colleagues who work at Nuclearelectrica either at the Cernavodă plant, or at the nuclear fuel plant or at the headquarters in Bucharest or in the company’s branches – the Nuclearelectrica Serv branch in Cernavodă and the Feldioara branch recently taken over and whose purpose is to process uranium”.
