The operating schedule of the Paroșeni power plant was reduced to a few days a week. The coal phase-out program provides a generous deadline, by 2032, for the closure of the mines and the construction of the new gas group. Until then, the activity is up to local mines extraction.

“We have a phase-out program agreed with the Ministry of Energy, which runs until 2032, with the safety of the deposit at the mines in the Jiu Valley. There will be a coal treasure in the Jiu Valley. During this time, a gas group will have to be built in Paroșeni until 2032, when the exploitation of coal from the mines in the Jiu Valley will stop. Subsequently, the mines will be greened,” told Energynomics Cristian Roșu, the special administrator of the Hunedoara Energy Complex.

But the Paroșeni unit already operates at less than half of capacity. The plant does not operate with imported coal, but only with locally extracted coal.

“At the moment and due to the old equipment, from the ’70s-’80s – no investments have been made for years, the amount of coal needed for the operation of the Paroșeni power plant is insufficient – we barely extract 1,000 tons per day. That’s why we can’t work all week – we only work two or three days a week,” Roșu added.

“We start the power plant on Wednesday and stop it on Friday. We resume the cycle next week and we stop on Friday,” he added.
