The collaboration between Canada and Romania in the nuclear energy sector will continue both in the area of the modernisation of Unit 1 of the Cernavodă power plant and the construction of reactors 3 and 4, said Gavin Buchan, Canada’s Ambassador to Romania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova.

„You are all going to see a lot more of Canada in the years ahead. The brightest days of our nuclear cooperation are still ahead,” said the ambassador, at the 11th Energynomics Awards Gala.

He recalled that Romania used Canadian technology in the construction of the two existing nuclear reactors.

At the same time, given the current challenges, the growing impact of climate change, inflation and the ramifications of the war in Ukraine, there is a need to ensure security of energy supply and diversify energy sources.

From these points of view, according to His Excellency, Romania has a crucial role to play in the region as a leader in the security of energy supply, including for the benefit of neighbouring countries.

Romania’s goals in the energy sector, namely security of energy supply at affordable prices and decarbonisation, are subsumed under a common denominator represented by nuclear energy, which will also contribute to the development of the renewable energy sector, as is also happening in Canada, the ambassador said.
