Sorin Boza, president of the Oltenia Energy Complex Directorate, responded to the statements of the Romanian Association of Large Energy Consumers (ABIEC), which expressed concerns regarding the authorities’ requests regarding the support mechanism for the Oltenia Energy Complex (CEO).

“I sincerely understand Mr. President (Marian Năstase) and I understand his point of view because 4 years ago I was on the other side of the table, of consumers …. Oltenia Energy Complex has put alone 1 billion euros in environmental investments… CEO owns 25% of the market today, we have the marginal price given precisely by these certificates, so the situation in Romania has two paradoxical things: CEO will never be able to recover totally CO2 expenses, risking going into insolvency. The second paradoxical thing is that the other producers make great profits by increasing prices precisely because of these CO2 certificates, for which they have no obligation to purchase. I am obliged to put them in the cost of production, I take into account a cost of production plus CO2, and the others – because we have this one-color market – go up the price below me and after me.

”The support mechanism to which the distinguished gentleman refers is only to cover these amounts that CEO cannot obtain today by price, in order to avoid the disappearance of the company and implicitly 25% of the country’s energy production and to keep the price somewhere as low as possible, meaning a fair price of energy on the Romanian market,” said Boza, quoted by financialintelligence.ro.
