Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that the energy market operates at higher prices than it could operate under normal conditions, because some wrong decisions were made and because the intentional increase in energy prices in favor of some “wise guys” was tolerated.
“One of our problems is that our energy market operates at higher prices than it could operate under normal conditions. This is because we made some wrong decisions, because we tolerated actions that mean the intentional increase in energy prices in favor of some ‘wise guys’. This has been happening for years, unfortunately. Think about two things and starting next week I announced that I will take care of this. We have about 9,000 megawatts necessary to keep this country running and the Transelectrica company, for example, together with the companies that are the distributors, that manage the networks, if they had an additional production of 1,000, 2,000, 3,000 megawatts, think about it that we would be a country that would have an overproduction of electricity, so prices would drop a lot, just because we have a higher production,” Bolojan said on Sunday on Digi 24 TV, quoted by Agerpres.
According to the Prime Minister, those who want to produce energy must be able to connect to the grid system.
“And, if the land is occupied, then you can’t connect, and if there’s congestion in a certain area, you’re asked for additional costs, the so-called network reinforcements, to develop the network. Do you know, in three years, how many ATRs we’ve released, so future connection projects? 78,000 megawatts. So think about it, if we increase from 9,000 to 11, 12, 13,000, we’d have overproduction. They released it to people who mostly just do paperwork. They occupied the networks, and you, an investor, if you want to make an investment tomorrow, they don’t have any more space, you can’t connect it anymore because it’s occupied. But the next day, after you go to this company, someone might call you who has a project and tell you – I’ll sell you the documentation. We have to break these ATRs that have been occupied for years and are practically in “This kind of thing takes away the possibility of producing energy in Romania. You can’t connect to the grids or you can connect in a few years, or you can produce something at very high prices. We have to correct this and by having more production and leaving only those who really honestly want to invest, we will have more production,” explained Bolojan.
