Romania is today in a very difficult situation from an energy point of view: insufficient and very expensive energy and needs the implementation of SMR technology, wrote, on Tuesday, on his social media page, the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, after the meeting with Chris Wright, the American Secretary of Energy. Investment in new production capacity is the only solution for Romania, the official insists.
“That’s why I came to Vienna, to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where I had a crucial meeting for Romania with Chris Wright, the US Secretary of Energy, and with the agency’s president, Rafael Grossi. My plan is clear: a Romania that does not depend on expensive energy imports!
How do we get there? With the strongest leaders in the energy field, through massive investments in nuclear, gas and hydropower production capacities. That’s why I came here: to identify financing and the most advanced technologies that can be developed in Romania. Implementation of SMR technology – state-of-the-art modular nuclear reactors; The Neptun Deep Project and the valorization of Black Sea resources; Investments that will transform Romania into an energy exporter”, Ivan claims.
“The situation is very difficult for Romania and, for this reason, I am using all the levers I have as Minister of Energy to create new power plants and produce energy. It is the only way Romania can become an energy champion and energy exporter! This is my plan, and the realistic target is that, in 2032, Romania will produce cheap energy and export the surplus.
We can only succeed in partnership with the most powerful global energy players, and that is what I am fighting for,” Ivan also wrote on Facebook.
“Today I met with my counterpart from the United States of America, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. It was the first meeting at the highest level with the new administration in Washington. We discussed how Romania is consolidating its role as a regional energy leader, developing safe, on-site energy production: through SMR, we are bringing the nuclear technology of the future to the country, through Neptun Deep, we are capitalizing on the resources of the Black Sea, through balance and pragmatism, we are transforming Romania into an energy exporter,” the Romanian official said. Ivan added that “the appreciation of the American partners confirms Romania’s direction: energy security, well-paid jobs and lower energy prices for Romanians, all with a clear objective – ensuring energy security on the eastern flank of Europe.”
