Belgian company ABEE invests in Galati in a battery production factory

The Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Ştefan Radu Oprea attended, on Tuesday, in the launch of the Romvolt project and added that those from the Belgian company ABEE are planning an investment in Galati, in a battery production factory with a capacity final 22 GW. “The investment will include technological transfer, the production facility, a research and development center and partnerships with technical faculties in Romania,” the social-democratic minister also said, according to News.ro.

“Today I participated in the launch of the Romvolt project. The Belgian company ABEE has a competitive technology for the production of Li-Ion batteries. It is the result of a long research that includes the production of batteries, but also their recycling. The intention of the Belgians is to build in Romania, in Galati, a factory for the production of batteries with a final capacity of 22 GW. The investment will include the technological transfer, the production facility, a research and development center and partnerships with technical faculties in Romania,” wrote Ştefan Radu Oprea, on Tuesday, on Facebook.

The Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism also said that the Belgian company’s efforts have been going on for over a year, they selected several locations in Romania, but they stopped at Galati where there is the potential for supply and export by water, which brings certain competitive advantages.

“The involvement and support of local authorities were the determining factors in making the decision”, added the PSD minister.

“At the press conference that marked the start of the Romvolt project, the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo also participated, who expressed his support for increasing the dynamics of Romanian-Belgian bilateral relations. Also, the ambassador Andreea Păstârnac, the MEP Dan Nica and the mayor of Galati Ionuţ Pucheanu. We will support investments in Romania, especially in competitive fields that can balance the trade balance,” added Oprea.
