Romania has enough gas in stock for this winter, but most likely prices will remain high, said Aura Săbăduș, Gas Price Expert, ICIS London.

“Gas prices will likely remain very high compared to neighboring states, because there are market distortions and we do not have sufficient interconnection capacity to ensure that we bring sufficient volumes to the market to stabilize prices. In my opinion, gas prices in Romania will remain, at least until spring – next summer, higher than in neighboring countries,” said Săbăduș, quoted by financialintelligence.ro.

“First of all we need to know if Romania, Transgaz, ANRE intend to sign the interconnection contract with Ukraine and we need to know if they will provide more interconnection capacity with Hungary and Bulgaria. This is a necessary factor for Romania’s energy security in the short term. In the long term, we must abandon GEO 114 and regulated prices that have led to major market distortions. In order to have a functioning market in Romania, we must not only ensure a good legislative framework in the gas field, but also in the adjacent fields and I refer here to the definition of the final (vulnerable) consumer,” said Săbăduș.
