APIA: Market share of green cars reached 43% in February

New car registrations decreased in Romania by 9.5% in February 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, but “electrified” cars reported a 12.9% increase and a 43.3% market share, shows the data published by the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).

According to the source cited by Agerpres, after the important evolution of the previous months, February 2024 comes with a 6.4% decrease in new vehicle registrations, compared to the similar month of 2023, respectively by 9.6% compared to January, the current year.

Cars (which represent approximately 93% of the total) recorded, in the analysis interval, a volume of 11,171 units, recording a decrease of 9.5%.

Depending on the type of fuel of the registered cars, in February of this year, gasoline engines registered a decrease of 23.1% compared to the similar period in 2023, thus reaching a weight of 57.5%. As for cars equipped with diesel engines, they register an increase of 21.6% and have a share of 17.6% of the total.

On the other hand, “electrified” cars, respectively electric ones (100% and plug-in hybrids), as well as full hybrid ones (which also have electric propulsion without charging from an external source) have, in the second month of 2024, a market share of 24.9%, which exceeds by 7.3 percentage points the share held by diesel engines.

In this context, fully electric cars have a share of 9.9% of the market in February this year, compared to February 2023, when they represented 8.4%. It is also worth noting the maintenance of the growth rate of 100% electric cars (+6.5%) and plug-in hybrid cars (+13.5%), from one year to the next.
