APIA: Green cars reached a market share of 21.7% of total registrations in 2022

New car registrations increased by 6.8% last year, compared to 2021, with “electrified” cars registering a jump of 49% and a 21.7% market share of the total, according to statistics from the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), published on Friday.

Depending on the type of fuel of registered cars, in 2022, gasoline engines decreased by 1.2%, compared to 2021, to a share of 64.5%, while cars equipped with diesel engines’ registrations decreased by 5% and have a share of 13.8% of the total, according to Agerpres.

On the other hand, “green” cars, namely electric ones (100% and plug-in hybrids), as well as full hybrid ones (which also have electric propulsion without charging from an external source), have come to hold a market share of 21.7%, last year.

In this category, fully electric cars have a share of 9.1% of the market, compared to 2021 when they represented only 5.3%.

At the level of the entire year 2022, it is worth noting the significant increase of 100% electric cars (+83.6%) and plug-in hybrid ones (+32.4%).

According to the quoted source, the first five best-selling 100% electric cars are: Dacia Spring – with 6,830 units (model launched in 2021, with an increase of 122.6% compared to the same period of the previous year), followed by Tesla (3,759 units, +248.2%), Volkswagen e-UP! (514 units, +18.2%), Hyundai Kona (365 units, -4.9%) and Renault Zoe (269 units, -22.5%).

In the case of Plug-in cars, the first place in registrations is the Ford Kuga, with 324 units and an increase of 24.1%, from year to year, followed by the Hyundai Tucson (271 units, +18.3% ), Renault Captur (247 units, -8.2%), Mercedes-Benz GLE (246 units, +36.7%) and Mercedes-Benz GLC (206 units, -8%).

At the same time, hybrid cars, without recharging from external sources, have the first place in the Top 3 models: Toyota Corolla (2,397 units, +12.3%), Toyota C-HR (1,978 units, -5.5%) and Toyota RAV4 (1,697 units, +5.4%).

APIA data reveals that the majority of car purchases were made by legal entities, which cover 59% of the total, and the difference of 41% belongs to individuals.
