A total of 8,836 new cars were registered in Romania in February, a decrease of 26.8% compared to the same period last year, when 12,071 cars were registered, according to the data of the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), which cites the statistics of the Direction of Registration of Vehicles (DRPCIV).

“Although it is probably a short-term situation, both in Romania and in Europe, where the CO2 targets have been generated, it seems, the faster registration of units in December 2019, and this can be seen in the volumes from the beginning of this year, the decrease in Romania after the first two months of 2020 was much wider (-18.1%) than in most European states,” says APIA, according to Agerpres.

Thus, compared to the same month last year, France recorded a 2.7% decline, Spain (-6%), Germany (-10.8%) and Italy (-8.8%).

“Also in Europe, February 2020 posted a decrease for the countries of Western Europe (-7%). This rather significant decrease, combined with the one recorded in January, led to a general negative evolution of the car market in this group of countries after the first two months of 2020. This less favorable evolution is essentially explained by the decrease of the production of cars made in Europe in 2019, respectively -4.9%,” according to APIA.
