The National Authority for Consumer Protection sent a questionnaire to energy companies to find out exactly how many bills were issued incorrectly and need to be recalculated, according to a statement.

On February 2, 2022, a questionnaire containing a detailed rubric was sent by e-mail to all companies that supply electricity and natural gas to domestic operators in Romania, following the completion of which it will be possible to accurately centralize the number of invoices incorrectly drafted, in relation to the provisions of Ordinances 118/2021 and 3/2022.

“As we said at the beginning of the week, we want to have certain, assumed data, in order to be able to quantify the exact size of erroneous billing in the field of electricity and natural gas, in Romania. We kept our word and immediately built a questionnaire that to allow us the precise radiography of the phenomenon and, in relation to this, to be able to approach concretely and quickly the control of the remedy of possible mistakes. As soon as we centralize all the data, we will publish them,” said Horia Constantinescu, ANPC president.

Two days ago, at the Government meeting on Wednesday, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy Dan Dragan presented a series of data on the process of recovering the wrongly issued electricity bills.

“Regarding the aid scheme for capping energy and gas prices that was established by GEO 118/2021, applied by Law 259/2021, following the controls that have been carried out at all suppliers of electricity and natural gas I can tell you that at the level of last week (…) a number of 89,195 wrong invoices were identified, and at the level of electricity more than 450,000 wrong invoices were identified,” said the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy.
