The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) carried out inspections on March 5, 2026 at fuel distribution stations, and following the inspections, 245 misdemeanor fines were applied, totaling over 1.49 million lei, according to a press release.

“According to the applicable legal framework, during periods of mobilization, state of war, state of emergency, state of alert or other crisis situations established by regulatory acts, ANPC may intervene for products, product categories or services established as being in a situation of speculative risk. Under these conditions, practices that affect the consumer are strictly prohibited, such as: charging unjustifiably high prices; unjustifiably limiting production or sales; accumulating and reselling products at unjustifiably high prices,” the release states, according to Agerpres.

According to the cited source, the inspections targeted four main categories, within which non-conformities were identified. Thus, for fuels and related products, it was found that the price of fuel was not displayed in a visible place / at the pump; non-functional price information totems; lack of information on the characteristics of the fuels sold (e.g. ethanol percentage); display of unjustified commercial statements (e.g. “we guarantee the highest cetane number produced in Romania”); incomplete or inaccessible documentation on the quality of fuels; fuel leaks, defective nozzles and unsanitized pavement.

As a result of the inspections, 359 contravention sanctions were applied, of which 114 warnings and 245 contravention fines, totaling over 1.49 million lei. Also, products worth 45,248 lei and products worth 10,896 lei were permanently stopped from being sold. At the same time, 7 measures to temporarily stop the provision of services (OTPS) were ordered.
