Romania lacks American capital but Amber Infrastructure Limited is trying to get around 300 million dollars from the US to invest in Romania or in the neighboring countries.

„We do not have enough American capital in Romania. We are confident that fund will get 300 million dollars from US Development Finance Corporation and this it’s a breakthrough in terms of American capital that can be used in Romania or neighboring countries”, Dorin Badea, Senior Investment Director Amber Infrastructure Limited stated, at the conference “Spring Cocktail 2023”, organized by Energynomics.

He added that there is a „fantastic need” for infrastructure in the region and the opportunities the fund sees are close to 500 billion dollars, including the energy sector.

The regional infrastructure should converge to the levels of Western Europe in terms of quality and availability, but the main challenges relate to sustainability and energy security. „These two need to be carefully balanced”, Badea said.

The fund is already active in Romania through investments in renewable capacities both in operation and in development and has already invested close 50 million euros so far only in equity in renewables in Romania. „We have significant projects in our pipeline in renewables but we are looking at other sectors as well, such as digital or transportation.”

The fund has risen close to 1 billion euros and has already invested 700 million euros.

Amber was appointed as the exclusive investment adviser of the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund (3SIIF) which was established in 2019. 3SIIF is a dedicated commercial fund targeting critical infrastructure investment in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

3SIIF will target an established pipeline of investments into energy, transport and digital infrastructure projects in the Three Seas Region. The region is made up of 12 European Union CEE member states that border the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black Seas.
