Last year, the E.ON Group invested around 2.2 million euros in projects for communities in Romania, bringing the total amount directed towards such initiatives to 22 million euros in recent years, according to the recently published 2024 Sustainability Report.

In 2024, over 1,500 employees were involved in volunteer activities, which means that almost a quarter of E.ON Group employees in Romania dedicated approx. 6,000 hours to communities. In total, 150 NGOs and institutions were supported, with 40,000 direct beneficiaries.

The main areas of community involvement aimed at improving safety culture and preparing future generations. Climate change and environmental protection, through projects and campaigns dedicated to energy efficiency, were also priority areas in 2024.

    Key projects

The “Give Light” campaign set a new record: 2.6 million kWh of energy donated to schools, inclusive education institutions or other social institutes that support the vulnerable, in the four editions held last year. Since its launch in 2015, the campaign has reached a total of 6.85 million kWh of energy donated by E.ON with the involvement of Romanians from several social centers, schools or hospitals.

Under the slogan “Together we make a difference”, E.ON Romania supported vulnerable groups both through campaigns and projects dedicated to them, and by involving employees in volunteer actions in small communities, identified with the support of local associations and NGOs. Over 1,500 employees participated in volunteering actions, and the results were commensurate with their involvement: playgrounds set up in the courtyards of inclusive education school centers, hundreds of food portions prepared in social canteens and distributed to vulnerable people, hundreds of packages donated to children and people in difficulty, dozens of schools whose courtyards or interior spaces were set up, reading spaces and school libraries transformed into welcoming places, tourist routes redeveloped or cleared of waste, over 58,000 trees planted and several blood donation campaigns held at our headquarters. In total, approximately 6,000 hours of volunteering.

The “Together for Safety” partnership concluded between E.ON, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the Department for Emergency Situations and Delgaz Grid, turned 12 last year. Every year, 5 million Romanians are informed about the safe use of energy, through TV campaigns, radio spots or through campaigns carried out on social media channels. In 2024, the “Detector pentru Viață” campaign led to the distribution and installation of 10,000 smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in households in 20 counties, also promoting the importance of installing such detectors, which in many cases make the difference between an incident and a tragedy.

The “Energy in Childhood Schools” project modernized, last year alone, the lighting in three educational institutions: “Petru Rareș” High School in Târgu Lăpuș, “Horea” High School in Marghita and Gymnasium School no. 10 in Târgu-Mureș. Since 2015, 86 schools have been equipped with over 41,000 lighting fixtures and 96,000 LED tubes, providing better learning conditions for students.

Through “Energy Lessons”, 83 volunteer employees taught 232 hours of energy, safety and environmental protection last year alone. Over 5,000 students from 115 schools and kindergartens learned how to be safe around energy sources, what green energy means and how they can become energy efficient.
