Allengra Oradea is a partner in a European project worth almost 7 million euros for hydrogen-powered naval propulsion, according to TransilvaniaBusiness.

The company Allengra SRL from Oradea is involved in a strategic European project dedicated to the development of hydrogen-based technologies for maritime transport, financed by the Horizon Europe program, with a total value of 6,999,953.27 euros. The project, called MiNaMi – Million Nautical Mile Fuel Cell System, is coordinated by the Finnish VTT institute and brings together a consortium of nine leading industrial and research actors from Europe.

The objective of the project is to develop a megawatt-scale proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) system for maritime applications, with a focus on efficiency, sustainability and carbon emission reduction.

“Allengra SRL is part of a large European project, carried out together with VTT, ABB, PowerCell – the largest manufacturer of hydrogen fuel cells – and other relevant partners in the maritime field. The project aims to develop a hydrogen-powered ship, based on fuel cell technology, with the highest possible efficiency,” said Niels Junker, Co-CEO and Commercial Director of Allengra Oradea.

Key technological role for the Oradea-based company

Within the MiNaMi project, Allengra has direct responsibilities in the research and development area, contributing with advanced hydrogen sensing solutions – a critical area for the safety and performance of PEMFC systems.

“Allengra is responsible for the development and testing of a new prototype of ultrasonic sensors, capable of measuring flow and determining gas composition. They will be used together with the HDS300 humidity sensor and must operate at flow rates of over 1,700 liters per minute, under very low pressure conditions, being optimized for integration into PEMFC systems,” explained Niels Junker.

    Strategic project with long-term impact

For Allengra, participation in this consortium represents both a validation of technological competence and an opportunity to position itself on European value chains with high added value.

“This project gives us direct access to innovation and the development of sustainable solutions, with applicability not only in the maritime field. At the same time, it involves close collaboration, over a period of three years, with some of the strongest industrial and research players in Europe,” emphasized Allengra’s Co-CEO.

The MiNaMi consortium consists of: VTT – Teknologian Tutkimuskeskus VTT Oy (Finland) – project coordinator, PowerCell Sweden AB, DFDS A/S, ABB Marine & Ports, Vaisala Oyj, Allengra SRL, SINTEF (Norway), CERTH – Center for Research and Technology Hellas (Greece), Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) – Italy.
