Increasing the energy efficiency of buildings is one of the measures with long-term benefits on energy consumers, ensuring not only lower energy needs but also increased comfort.

During the conference “nZEB Standards – Energy Efficiency and Building Materials”, organized at the Palace of the Parliament by the deputy Oana-Marciana Özmen, in partnership with Efficient Romania, Alexandru Maximescu, vice president of OMV Petrom, launched a challenge: “What would be if we all managed by the spring of next year to create a line of financing through European funds, for everyone, including private individuals, who, if they apply nZEB standards and reduce energy consumption, will benefit from a very concrete support, including for new construction?”

Such a formula already works in the other EU Member States, such as Germany. “From the spring, any new construction that applies these new technologies [could] benefit from such a support scheme. […] Once we are responsible, when we see the cost reduction, as well as this subsidy, I think that those who want to build will definitely consider this option”, Alexandru Maximescu also said.

Already, as energy prices rise, people are starting to think about how to reduce these costs, which may increase interest in energy efficiency. Measures that can be taken include increasing the energy performance of the building envelope through proper insulation, energy-efficient windows, reducing air infiltration and thermal decks, LED lighting, energy-efficient heating and cooling equipment, more efficient appliances.

The second edition of the conference “nZEB Standards – Energy Efficiency and Building Materials” took place on October 28, at the Parliament Palace. The event was also attended by the interim Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, ambassadors and other representatives of some embassies, parliamentarians, representatives of some local authorities, as well as of some associations and companies.
