The Romanian energy community ends the year with a new sign of confidence in the next generation: in just a few years, AIEE projects have succeeded in creating a space for dialogue, practice, and professional training that is already beginning to influence the career paths of young engineers. The first edition of AIEE Energy Day, held on December 6 in Sinaia, confirmed the association’s ambition to build a coherent platform for professionals, companies, and students to meet at a time when the pressure on technical skills, operation, and integration of new technologies is increasing.
The new initiative follows on from the “Dispatcher for a Day” project, which expanded to Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca in 2025, a sign that interest in critical professions in the power system is growing. The technical visit to the Sinaia 0 Hydroelectric Power Plant, the round table dedicated to the challenges of operational management, and the exchange of ideas between specialists and students provided the context for a broader discussion on the future of the network, the responsibilities of dispatchers, and the new skills required in an increasingly complex electrical system.
The messages conveyed by representatives of Transelectrica, Hidroelectrica, Rețele Electrice România, DEER, Enevo Group, Nova Power & Gas, and other companies present outline the same need: to train a generation capable of managing operational uncertainty, accelerated digitization, and the transition to an energy mix dominated by variable sources. For students, the project served as a career guidance experience, and for the industry, as a mechanism to identify and cultivate talent in an area where the skills gap is evident.
AIEE announces that it will continue to invest in programs dedicated to young people and in strengthening its network of partners, from infrastructure and manufacturing companies to distribution operators, technology manufacturers, and engineering firms. At a time when the modernization of the Romanian energy system depends equally on funding, equipment, and people, vocational training projects are becoming part of the critical infrastructure on which the energy transition depends.
