Dan-Dragoș Drăgan: Romgaz and Exxon deal will be completed this year

The result of the negotiations between Romgaz and Exxon Mobil in order to take over by the largest domestic gas producer of the company that holds the Americans’ stake in the Neptun Deep project could be known in the next period, until the end of this year, said Dan-Dragos Dragan, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy.

“There is a commercial negotiation, which is taking place in good conditions, and the result will be announced in the next period, until the end of the year,” said Dan-Dragoș Drăgan, according to Profit.ro.

The Secretary of State reiterated the idea announced by the relevant Minister Virgil Popescu, according to which it is important for all actors involved that the amendment of the Offshore Law, requested by Black Sea operators, be made by a broad agreement, including in Parliament, because it transmits an important signal to investors.

“As far as I know, at the level of the ministry, we want to start offshore gas exploitation as soon as possible. In 2025, with 2026 deadline for production at maximum capacity,” said the government official.

Regarding the situation of winter stocks, the Secretary of State announced that approximately 2.3 billion cubic meters, representing 75% of the total gas storage capacity in Romania, are currently stored.
