Two Romanian students have taken the first positions in the EURELECTRIC Student Award Competition

This year’s EURELECTRIC Student Award went to Maria-Ruxandra Luca, Student at the Faculty of Power Engineering, University Politechnica of Bucharest for the best video creation on the topic of electrification. Ms. Luca’s video entry was on vehicle to grid (V2G) technology. Runner-up was Laura Elena Bejinariu, student at the University Technica “Gheorge Asachi” of Iasi, Romania.

Beginning with 2013, the Romanian Polytechnic students, through IRE and supported by companies in the energy sector, participate in the EURELECTRIC Convention & Conference Student Award competition, organized annually in one of the member countries of the European Union.

Last year, in Vilnius, student Razvan Pricopie from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering and Applied Informatics, Gheorghe Asachi Technical University from Iasi ranked second. This time, the success of the Romanian students was even more remarkable, given that two students attended the competition and ranked on the first two places.

  • First place – Ruxandra Maria Luca, Polytechnical University of Bucharest, Faculty of Power Engineering
  • 2nd Place – Laura Elena Bejinariu, Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering and Applied Informatics

The delegation of the Romanian energy sector was composed of the Polytechnic students, supported by b, President of IRE and Cătălin Stancu, General Manager Societatea Energetică Electrica SA, new member in the EURELECTRIC Board of Directors. Among the conference participants and a supporter of the team was Arina Anisie, Program Officer at IRENA – International Renewable Energy Agency, based in Bonn, Germany.

“I take advantage of this special occasion to congratulate and thank the teachers for how they prepared the students, especially the professors Radu Porumb, UPB and Mihai Gavrilas and Ovidiu Ivanov, the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University in Iasi. And I want to wish Mr. General manager Catalin Stancu good luck in the EURELECTRIC leadership team, the most influential professional association in Brussels”, said Teodor-Ovidiu Pop, IRE President.

Electrica SA, CEZ Romania, Romelectro Group, CNTEE Transelectrica and Verbund sponsored the participation of the students at the Estoril competition and their presence in all actions related to the EURELECTRIC Convention & Conference..

Seatower named winner of the 2017 EURELECTRIC Industry Award

Seatower, a company that designs gravity foundations for offshore wind turbines and substations was named winner of the 2017 EURELECTRIC Industry and Innovation Award. The unique technology represents a breakthrough in the offshore industry, because of a less risky process – as the installation involves fewer personnel in offshore operations-, faster and much simpler installation procedure and larger weather conditions window.

Runners-up to this award include Arquiled Projectos de Iluminação, SA, that design, develop and manufacture lighting solutions based on LED technology and Fugro Roames’ Virtual World Asset Management (VWAM) system that allows infrastructure managers to remotely investigate the condition and performance of their network.

The 2017 EURELECTRIC Convention & Conference took place on June 19-20 in Estoril, Portugal.
