Primary energy resources decreased by 2.4% in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period in 2019, while final electricity consumption decreased by 2.2%, at a comparative level, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In the reference period, the main primary energy resources totaled 8.507 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), decreasing by 212,000 toe, and domestic production amounted to 4.933 million toe, less by 221,800 toe, while imports were 3.574 million toe.

The data show that, during this period, electricity resources were of 17.478 billion kWh, increasing by 363 million kWh (+2.15), compared to the corresponding period of 2019, according to Agerpres.

Also, the production from thermal power plants was of 6.204 billion kWh, decreasing by 874.2 million kWh (-12.4%). At the same time, the production from hydropower plants stood at 3.433 billion kWh, less by 37.3 million kWh (-1.1%), and that from nuclear power plants was of 3.087 billion kWh, increasing by 108.6 million kWh (+3.6%).

In terms of production of wind power plants, this was of 2.311 million kWh in the first quarter of this year, up 190.3 million kWh from the same period last year, and solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations amounted to 331.7 million kWh, down 9.1 million kWh from the previous year’s reference period.

On the other hand, the final electricity consumption was of 14.133 billion kWh, 2.2% lower than in the corresponding period of 2019. In this margin, public lighting decreased by 0.5%, while the consumption of the population increased by 3.4%.
