Strengthening bilateral relations between Romania and Israel, especially in the field of energy, is an important goal to be achieved, according to the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, who paid a working visit to Israel between April 10 and 13.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, Virgil Popescu met on Wednesday with the Israeli Minister of Energy, Karine Elharrar.

“Strengthening bilateral relations between Romania and Israel, especially in the field of energy, is an important goal to achieve. These days together with Cosmin Ghiţă – CEO SNN, Bogdan Badea – CEO Hidroelectrica, Aristotel Jude – CEO Romgaz and Răzvan Popescu- CFO Romgaz we are paying a working visit to Israel. We envisage a wide-ranging cooperation in the energy sector: gas, electricity, RES and other technologies, and this morning we had a very good dialogue with the representatives of NewMed Energy, the Delek group company that operates the largest offshore gas field in Israel. We have told them that we are interested in diversifying our sources of supply and we can import LNG from Israel via Egypt. We must seize every opportunity to strengthen Romania’s energy security,” said Virgil Popescu, according to Agerpres.

At the same time, the Minister of Energy had working meetings with the representatives of Israel Electric Company and those of Doral-Energy.

The Minister of Energy also went to the National Institute for Export in Israel where he had talks with representatives of companies that have innovative solutions in the field of energy.
