UniCredit Bank, one of the main financial institutions in Romania, launched its sixth corporate bond issue on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) on March 27, attracting RON 600 million from institutional investors. The bonds are traded on the BVB Regulated Market under the ticker symbol UCB31.
The 600 senior unsecured bonds with a nominal value of RON 1 million each will mature on February 27, 2031. The issue attracted more interest than expected, being significantly oversubscribed compared to the initial target of RON 500 million, so the issue volume was increased to RON 600 million, and the final annual coupon was set at 6.82%.
The bonds are part of the medium-term bond issuance program (MTN Program – Medium Term Notes) approved by the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF), under which UniCredit Bank can issue bonds with a total nominal value of EUR 400 million. The program provides for the issuance of senior unsecured bonds in dematerialized form, which can be issued in successive tranches. The funds obtained from each bond issue are used for general financing purposes of the issuer, according to the prospectus.
“The listing of a new bond issue by UniCredit Bank confirms the attractiveness of the Romanian capital market as a source of financing for first-rate financial institutions. Each bond issue listed on the BVB consolidates the fixed income segment and offers investors quality instruments in a regulated and transparent framework. We appreciate the long-term partnership with UniCredit Bank, which has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the development of the local capital market”, stated Remus Vulpescu, General Manager of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
“The listing of the new bond issue on the Bucharest Stock Exchange confirms UniCredit”s strategy for diversified and responsible financing. The capital market remains an essential tool to access stable and efficient resources, in a transparent framework, that meets the needs of a dynamic economy in a continuous process of transformation. The integration of Alpha Bank Romania into the group strengthens our position on the local market and helps us offer investors solid solutions, adapted to a complex financial environment. We thank investors for their trust and our partners at the Bucharest Stock Exchange for their essential role in the development of the capital market. Through this issue, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the financing of the Romanian economy and to contributing to building a modern and predictable investment ecosystem”, added Georgia Sălăgean, Executive Vice President and CFO at UniCredit Bank.
UniCredit Bank has been active on the capital market since 2013 as a bond issuer, currently totaling six issues listed on the Stock Exchange over time. The first two issues, from 2013 and 2017, respectively, have already reached maturity. The bank currently has four tradable bond issues: UCB27 and UCB28, both listed in 2023, UCB29, which entered trading at the end of 2024, and the issue listed today, UCB31.
The total value of UniCredit Bank bonds available for trading on the BVB currently reaches 2.3 billion lei. The intermediation of the issue was carried out by UniCredit Bank, and legal advice was provided by Clifford Chance Badea. In August 2025, UniCredit Bank became a Participant in the BVB trading system, following the merger process between UniCredit Bank and Alpha Bank. UniCredit Bank took over all financial investment services regarding capital market trading, previously provided by Alpha Bank Romania. UniCredit Bank also continues the distribution of government securities under the Fidelis program, through its extensive network of branches across the country.
