The market for urban mobility platforms in Romania is worth about 340 million euro

The market for urban mobility platforms in Romania, which includes players such as Uber and Clever, is estimated at nearly 1.6 billion lei (340 million euro) and generates economic benefits of over 1 billion lei (210 million euro), being complementary to services of taxi, according to a study published by PwC Romania.

The e-hailing market (which includes the equivalent of taxi services generated by urban mobility applications) is of 706 million lei and the ride-sharing of 881 million lei, according to PwC. „Thus, the local market for ride-sharing accounts for 21% of the total private urban transport market, and the total market for urban mobility platforms (including the equivalent of taxi services generated by urban mobility applications) accounts for 44% of the total, enabling Romanians’ access to private urban transport services and a need for urban mobility that is not addressed by traditional urban transport modes,” according to PwC.

In addition, the study shows that the activity of urban mobility platforms generates direct and indirect economic benefits of over 1 billion lei annually, being complementary to taxi services and having a positive systemic impact, according to News.ro.

Thus, the direct benefits represented by taxes and charges paid by transport operators using these digital mobility platforms are of 304 million lei annually, while the indirect benefits, which represent the degree of multiplication in economy of the consumption of services private urban transport generated through urban mobility platforms is 781 million lei, according to PwC.
