The European Commission has approved Romania’s first regional programs for 2021-2027: RP West and RP South-Muntenia

The Ministry of European Investment and Projects has received official approval from the European Commission for the first regional programs for the 2021-2027 programming period, namely the West Regional Programme and the South-Muntenia Regional Programme. The 8 Regional Programmes for the period 2021-2027 have a total allocation of more than €11 billion.

Both the West Regional Programme and the South-Muntenia Regional Programme propose interventions for the development of research, development, innovation and digitisation capacity, increasing the energy performance of the existing stock of public and residential buildings, the valorisation of degraded spaces in cities, sustainable urban mobility, investments in the county road network and in the educational infrastructure, as well as actions for the valorisation of cultural, tourist and seaside potential.

“This is a long-awaited moment for de-bureaucratisation and balanced development in all regions,” said Minister Marcel Bolos. “Now local authorities can take their fate into their own hands, to take responsibility for the future of those they represent.”

RP Vest objectives

The Western Regional Programme has a total allocation of €1.17 billion and supports, through specific funding priorities, the transformation of the region into a competitive region through innovation, digitisation and dynamic enterprises (€236 million), with Smart Cities and a digitised administration (34, 11 million), with environmentally friendly cities (€156.79 million), with sustainable (€157.36 million) and affordable urban mobility (€158.36 million), an educated and attractive region (€193.95 million) and, last but not least, a region for citizens (€193.01 million). A financial allocation of €49.37 million is foreseen for technical assistance interventions.

RP Sud Muntenia objectives

The South-Muntenia Regional Programme has a total allocation of €1.57 billion and supports the transformation of the region into a competitive region through innovation, digitisation and dynamic enterprises (€423.93 million), with environmentally friendly cities (€365.49 million), sustainable urban mobility (€215.99 million) and more accessible (€225.14 million), a more educated (€76.06 million) and attractive region (€203.58 million). A financial allocation of €66.57 million is foreseen for technical assistance interventions..

Thus, in the third financial year through which the Romanian state will benefit from European funds, sixteen programmes will be implemented, through which Romania will be allocated more than 31 billion euros.
